Shantakaram Bhujangashayanam - Lord Vishnu Mantra

Shantakaram Bhujanga Shayanam Padmanabham Suresham,
Vishvadharam Gagana Sadrisham Meghavarnam Shubhangam.
Lakshmikantam Kamalanayanam Yogibhir Dhyanagamyam,
Vande Vishnum Bhavabhayaharam Sarvalokaikanatham.

Meaning: This verse praises Lord Vishnu and describes his glory. In this, various forms and qualities of Lord Vishnu are described and a prayer has been made to seek refuge in him. The meaning of the verse is as follows:

  • Shantakaaran: The posture of Lord Vishnu, who has a peaceful form, is full of extreme peace. They are always calm, their condition is devoid of any disorder. The peace on his face also gives peace to the mind of the viewer.
  • Bhujangashayanam: Lord Vishnu, who sleeps on the snake bed, sleeps on the bed of the serpent king Anant (Sheshnag). The huge hood of Sheshnag becomes the bed of the Lord and is his resting place. This depiction shows his uniqueness and majesty.
  • Padmanabha: From whose navel a lotus sprang. A divine lotus sprang from the navel of Lord Vishnu from which Lord Brahma was born. Hence the Lord is called 'Padmanabha' who is responsible for the creation of the universe.
  • Suresham: The creator of the gods Swami. Vishnu is the lord of the gods, he is their king and protector. All the gods sing his praises and take refuge in him.
  • Vishwadharam: Foundation of the entire universe. Lord Vishnu is the foundation of the entire universe. He keeps the entire creation stable. and protects all living beings. Without Him this universe would become unstable.
  • Gagan Sadrisam: Infinite like the sky. Lord Vishnu's vastness is like the sky. He is endless, He has no beginning or end. He is omnipresent, i.e. Present everywhere.
  • Meghavarnam: One with a colour like the clouds. Lord Vishnu's colour is dark blue like the clouds. This colour signifies His intensity, depth and mysteriousness.
  • Shubhāngam: Whose every part is beautiful. Every part of Lord Vishnu's body is beautiful and divine. It is difficult to describe his beauty because it is immense.
  • Lakshmikantam: Beloved of Lakshmi Ji. Lord Vishnu is the beloved husband of Mother Lakshmi. Mother Lakshmi gives wealth, She is the goddess of splendor and prosperity, and her association with Lord Vishnu is indelible and divine.
  • Kamalnayanam: One whose eyes are like lotus. Lord Vishnu's eyes are large, soft and beautiful like lotus flowers. His sight is a blessing to his devotees.
  • Yogibhirdhyanagamyam: Attainable by yogis in meditation Lord Vishnu's form is the subject of meditation for yogis. Yogis experience his divinity in meditation and achieve oneness with him. Vande Vishnu
  • Bhavabhayaharam: I worship that Vishnu I am the one who removes the fear of birth and death. This verse praises Lord Vishnu, who removes the fears and sufferings of the world. By surrendering to him, the soul attains salvation.
  • Sarvalokaikanatham: The only lord of all the worlds. Lord Vishnu is the lord of all the worlds. He is the protector and nurturer of all living beings. The whole world runs by his grace and he is the greatest protector.

Explanation:

This shloka praises Lord Vishnu, whose nature is calm and gentle. He sits on the serpent king Sheshnag and Brahma Ji was born from his navel. Vishnu Ji is considered the basis of creation. His vastness and expanse are like the sky, and his color is blue like the clouds.

Lord Vishnu's beauty is incomparable and his eyes are soft and attractive like lotus. Lakshmi ji's blessings also remain on him. Yogis attain salvation through meditation We experience the divine form of Lord Vishnu. At the end of this verse it is said that Lord Vishnu is the only one who can remove the fear of birth and death. He is the only master of all the worlds and by worshiping him all the sufferings are removed. .
