The fair of Surajkund is organized every year in Faridabad, Haryana during the spring from 01 February to 16 February. Surajkund fair is India’s most celebrated international Craftsmela organized in Surajkund, Haryana, New Delhi by Haryana Tourism Department. This fair is first set up in 1987. It is unique as it showcases the richness and diversity of the handicraft, handlooms and cultural fabric of India and skilled artisans from all over the country display he rich crafts tradition of India in the typical rural setting for the public under one roof.
Every year, the Surajkund Crafts Mela is planned by selecting a particular Indian state as a theme and entire ambiance for the fair is designed accordingly by scintillating folk performances are also organized at the venue and each state performs their folk songs respectively. It is said that Surajkund is the stunning blend of various cultures ethos and Indian culture, art and music altogether seen here. The whole ambiance is very peaceful and musical. Surajkund welcomes Artists from abroad as well and gives a strong platform for artists and craftsmen to display their art work. Entry ticket is always set every year and visitors came from all over the world.
The sole motive behind organizing this fair is to reset the India’s traditional art and talent and to make visitors aware about the same. The Mela is indeed a custodian of the heritage crafts involving use of traditional skills that are fading away due to cheap machine made imitations and a special section is earmarked for showcasing of these heritage crafts. Visitors and buyers get a chance to meet in the fair. Craftsmen and buyers came face to face with each other. Craftsmen and artisans in this fair finds a direct way to explore and improve their artwork.
