Bhukund Bhairav Temple is a Hindu temple located at Kedarnath in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Lord Bhairav is worshiped at this place and there is no roof over Lord Bhairav, that is, Bhairav is seated in the open at this place.
The specialty of Bhukund Bhairav Temple is that before the opening of the doors of Kedarnath temple, Bhukund Bhairav is worshipped, only after that Lord Kedarnath Baba is worshipped. According to the legend, Bhukund is considered as the first Rawal of Baba Kedarnath. Bhukund Bhairav is said to be the Kshetrapal of Kedarnath. Bhukund Bhairav is an incarnation of Lord Shiva.
This temple is about 500 meters from Kedarnath, which is situated on the top of the hill, it can be reached on foot. This temple is situated to the south of Kedarnath temple and can be seen from Kedarnath temple. It is believed that if a devotee visits Kedarnath, then his darshan will be considered incomplete until he sees Bhukund Baba. Bhukund Bhairav is worshiped on Tuesdays and Saturdays before the Kedarnath temple opens.
