Navami Tithi is one of the major dates of the Hindu calendar, which has special religious and spiritual significance. This date falls on the ninth day of every fortnight (Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha) and is considered auspicious and holy. Navami Tithi is related to Goddess Durga and her ninth form Siddhidatri.
Navami Tithi is especially important during Navratri. Goddess Durga is worshipped with rituals on the ninth day of Sharadiya and Chaitra Navratri. On this day, devotees perform Kanya Pujan, which is also called Kanjak or Kumarika Pujan. In this puja, nine girls are invited as the form of the goddess and fed. They are blessed by giving gifts and Dakshina.
Havan and other religious rituals are also performed on Navami Tithi. This day is considered ideal for spiritual advancement and is also called the day of attaining Siddhi.
According to mythology, on Navami Tithi, Goddess Durga established Dharma by killing the demon Mahishasura. It is celebrated as the victory of "Mahishasura Mardini".
Navami Tithi gives us the message that to overcome the demons, we should awaken the power within us. This day is a symbol of self-purification, devotion and charity.
According to the Hindu calendar, the ninth day is called Navami. Navami falls in both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. Navami comes twice in every month. Navami has its own special significance in Hinduism.
