According to the Hindu calendar, the sixth day is called Shashthi. Shashti falls in both Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. Shashti comes twice in a month. Shashti has its own special significance in Hinduism. The famous festivals falling on Shashthi Tithi are Durga Puja, Sitalasthi, Skanda Sashti or Subramanya Shashthi and Chhath Puja. Lord Shiva's son Kartikeya is worshiped on the day of Shashthi.
Shashthi Tithi is especially important for the happiness and health of children. On this day, parents worship Goddess Shashthi and pray for longevity, health and prosperity of their children by her grace. Chhath festival and Surya Shashthi fast are organized at many places on this day.
By performing Puja and fasting on Shashthi Tithi, the child gets longevity, health and happiness and prosperity. By getting the blessings of Goddess Shashthi on this date, every kind of obstacle in life is removed.
Shashthi Tithi is the sixth day of Shukla and Krishna Paksha of every month according to Hindu calendar. This date has special importance from religious and spiritual point of view. On Shashthi Tithi, it is customary to worship Goddess Shashthi Mata, who is considered to be the goddess who protects children and gives blessings of happiness and prosperity.
