Phalguna is the name of a month in Hinduism, which is called Phalguna month in the lunar Hindu calendar. According to the Hindu religion Vikram Sawant, there are 12 months and it is the last month of the Hindu calendar. The months of February and March are in the Gregorian calendar. After this comes the month of Chaitra which is considered to be the beginning of the Hindu New Year.

According to the Hindu calendar, each month has its own importance, thus the month of Phalguna has its own importance. In the month of Falgun, the summer gradually starts and the winter starts decreasing. Holi and Mahashivratri, the most famous festivals of Hinduism, is celebrated in the month of Falgun. It can be said that only one solar year ends with the festival of Holi. In the solar religious calendar, the month of Phalguna begins with the entry of the Sun into Pisces.

The month of Phalguna is the twelfth month in Vikram Samvat. The names of the Hindu months are based on the constellations. In Hinduism, the changing of the month depends on the lunar cycle, the constellation on which the moon is located, that month is named on the basis of that constellation. Moon stays in Phalguni Nakshatra on the full moon of Phalguna month, hence this month is called the month of Falgun. Sun enters Pisces in the month of Falgun.

The month of Phalguna is special for the people associated with ISKCON. Gaur-Purnima, which celebrates the birth of Saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1534), also falls in the month of Phalguna.

Significance of Phalguna Month

Phalguna month has special significance in Hindu religion, Holi, Vijay Ekadashi, Phulera Dooj, Mahashivratri and other festivals are celebrated in this month. It is considered particularly fruitful to worship Lord Krishna in the month of Falgun. During this, 3 forms of Shri Krishna - Child Krishna, Young Krishna and Guru Krishna are worshipped. Also, according to mythological beliefs, Chandradev was born in the month of Phalguna itself, so Chandra Dev is also worshiped in this month. It is considered beneficial to do charity, virtue and tarpan in this month.
