Anjalikastra which was used in the wars of Ramayana and Mahabharata

Anjalikastra, the divine weapon of Devraj Indra, is considered a symbol of power and destruction. This weapon separates the enemy's forehead from his body. Let us know the amazing stories of the use of this super powerful weapon in the eras of Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Ramayana

Brahma had blessed Meghnad that after the completion of the yajna for Goddess Pratyangira, he would get a divine chariot. With this chariot, no creature could defeat him. But for this blessing to be complete, there should not be any kind of interruption in the yajna.

Meghnad asked for a second boon from the Supreme Lord - he can only be killed by someone who has not slept continuously for twelve years.

In this way, Laxman was the only person who could kill Meghnad. As per Vibhishan's instructions, Laxman stopped Meghnad's yajna and killed Meghnad with Anjalikastra.

Mahabharata

On the seventeenth day of the Kurukshetra war, a battle took place between Indraputra Arjuna and Suryaputra Karna. Arjuna's charioteer was Sri Krishna and Karna's charioteer was Madra king Shalya.

When Karna tried to move ahead, the wheel of his chariot got stuck in the mud due to the curse given by Bhudevi. He wanted to use Brahmastra but this was not possible due to the curse given by Parshuram. Finally, helpless, he tried to pull the wheel out of the mud.

Karna had neither weapon nor arms in his hands. As per the instructions of Sri Krishna, at this very time Arjuna killed Karna by using Anjalikastra.
