Yudhishthira's curse on the womankind in Mahabharata

After the 17th day of the Mahabharata war, when the Pandavas killed Karna in the war considering him to be a Sutputra, Yudhishthira came to know the truth after the war. Mother Kunti then told her sons that Karna was actually their elder brother, who was the son of Surya and Kunti. The Pandavas, especially Yudhishthira, were deeply shocked to know this secret.

Yudhishthira's reaction

Yudhishthira was extremely saddened and angry that his mother had kept such a big secret hidden from him. If this truth had been told earlier, the war could have been averted, and there would have been no bloodshed between brothers. Under the influence of this pain and anger, Yudhishthira cursed his mother Kunti and the entire womankind.

Reason for the curse

Yudhishthira doubted the ability of women to keep secrets and cursed:

"From now on women will not be able to keep any secret or secret."

Effect and message of the curse

This curse was given to women, but its purpose was to reveal the intense pain and resentment caused by the war. This incident throws light on many aspects of human life:

  • Importance of truth and power to keep secrets : If Kunti had revealed this secret on time, the course of the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas could have changed.
  • Effect of pain and suffering: Yudhishthira gave this curse in anger and pain, which was contrary to his balanced and just nature.
