Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verse 26

This verse is from the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 6, Verse 26. It is written in Sanskrit and translates to English as follows:

yato yato niśhcharati manaśh chañchalam asthiram
tatas tato niyamyaitad ātmanyeva vaśhaṁ nayet || 26 ||

English translation:

“In this verse, Lord Krishna is describing the fickleness of the mind and the method of controlling it during yoga and meditation. He says that wherever the mind wanders here and there being fickle and unstable, it should be controlled and stabilized in the soul itself.”

The human mind is fickle and unstable by nature. It is very difficult to stabilize the mind at one place while practicing yoga or meditating. It starts wandering in various thoughts and desires again and again. Lord Krishna is explaining in this verse that when the mind starts wandering in any direction, the seeker should immediately bring it back by reminding himself.
