Kajari Teej festival is celebrated on Tritiya of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapadra. Kajari Teej is also known as Badi Teej as opposed to Chhoti Teej.This festival is especially celebrated in Banaras and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. Kajri also has a rivalry. Often people ride on boats and sing Kajari songs. This is a special raga of the rainy season. Like the Brahmins of Braj, it is considered to be the main rain song here.
On this day there is a swing. The dish, mishtan, is made in homes. In rural areas, it is called Teeja. The villagers and the bridegroom sit on the Hindola and sing the Kajari song. During the rainy season, this song is very much loved by papaya, clouds and the winds of the east wind.
Women keep many fasts for the well being and long life of their husbands. One of them is the fast of Kajari Teej. On this day, women observe a fast throughout the day and pray that their husbands may have a long life.
