Why is the use of conch forbidden in the worship of Lord Shiva?

In Hinduism, the worship of Lord Shiva is considered very important. Many types of things are offered on Shivling, but the use of conch is considered forbidden in the worship of Lord Shiva. There are many religious, mythological and spiritual reasons behind this. Let us understand these reasons in detail.

Mythology

According to mythology, conch is related to demons. According to a story, an asura Shankhachud defeated the gods and took over heaven. Lord Vishnu killed Shankhachud and a conch was produced from his body. Shankhachud demon was Lord Krishna's friend Sudama, who was cursed by Radha to be born in a demon's womb. Since Shankhachud was a Vishnu devotee. Therefore, Lakshmi-Vishnu are very fond of conch water and it is a rule to offer water from conch to all the gods. But Shiva had killed him, so the water of conch is prohibited to Shiva. Therefore, the use of conch in Shiva worship is considered forbidden.

Religious belief

According to religious beliefs, conch is mainly used in the worship of Lord Vishnu. Conch is considered a symbol of Lord Vishnu and its use is considered auspicious in Vishnu Puja and Lakshmi Puja. Using conch in the worship of Lord Shiva is not considered religiously appropriate, because it is a symbol of Vishnu used in the worship of Shiva.

Spiritual reason

From a spiritual point of view, the sound vibration of conch and its energy are not considered suitable for the worship of Lord Shiva. Peace, concentration and meditation have special importance in Shiva worship, while the sound of conch deflects energy, which can affect the atmosphere of worship.

Mention in scriptures

In religious scriptures and Puranas, the use of conch is clearly prohibited in the worship of Lord Shiva. According to Shiva Purana and other texts, offering water from conch on Shivling or blowing conch destroys the virtue of worship and is considered inauspicious.

There are religious, mythological and spiritual reasons behind the prohibition of using conch shells in the worship of Lord Shiva. Following this belief, devotees do not use conch shells in the worship of Lord Shiva and offer him Bel Patra, Dhatura, Bhaang etc. Thus, by respecting religious traditions and beliefs, we can worship Lord Shiva in the right way and receive his blessings.
