The "Pitra Dev Stotram" is an immensely divine and powerful hymn composed in the Sanskrit language. It is highly recommended to recite this stotram regularly. It is believed that in households where the "Pitra Dev Stotram" is written and kept, the ancestors reside during the Pitru Paksha, a special fortnight dedicated to honoring one's forefathers.
In addition to the "Pitra Dev Stotram," customary rituals during Pitru Paksha include performing the Shodasha Pindadan (offering sixteen rice balls), conducting serpent worship (Sarpa Puja), donating to Brahmins (Brahma Daan), giving away a cow (Gau Dan), offering Kanyadan (donating a girl in marriage), constructing wells, ponds, and lakes, planting sacred trees like Peepal and Banyan in temple courtyards, and reciting Vishnu mantras to appease any ancestral curses.
These practices are aimed at appeasing the ancestors, seeking their blessings, and ensuring the peaceful transition of their souls to the afterlife. It is believed that performing these rituals and reciting the "Pitra Dev Stotram" can help mitigate ancestral curses and bring harmony to the family.
