Pratah Smaranam, composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, is a sacred prayer consisting of three stanzas that aim to dedicate the individual's mind (manas), speech (vak), and body (kaya) to the supreme Spirit.

The first thoughts, words, and actions of each day hold significant influence over an individual's life. When consecrated and infused with divinity, they can pave the path towards spiritual enlightenment. This dawn prayer holds profound significance as it symbolizes both the outer dawn and inner awakening. Those who recite this sacred trio of verses every morning, which is regarded as an adornment for all three realms, will ultimately attain the highest state of liberation.

Within the verses of Pratah Smaranam, Shankaracharya encapsulates the essence of Advaita-Vedanta. The ultimate Reality is Sachchidananda, denoting existence-consciousness-bliss. It is indeed the truth, transcending the three states of experience and existing beyond them. However, these expressions should not be interpreted literally as a definitive description of Reality. Hence, Brahman is indicated through negation, emphasizing what it is "not." Brahman remains elusive to categorization, beyond the confines of human concepts and words. The so-called individual soul is non-different from Brahman and should not be confused with the body-mind complex.

The elements that constitute the world are mere illusory manifestations on the canvas of fundamental Reality, similar to shadows or garlands cast on a rope. As the sun of wisdom rises, these illusions dissolve, and the ultimate goal of life is realized. Pratah Smaranam, this meritorious trio of verses, adorned as an ornament for the three worlds, guides those who recite it at dawn toward the supreme destination.
